The Whipping Post Take on Lompoc Record
SUPERVISOR HOPEFULS AGREE: MORE TAXPAYER-FUNDED HOUSING IS THE 'SOLUTION'!
Two candidates for the Fifth District seat are already competing for who can spend more of *your* money on 'affordable' housing, proving the deep state's priorities are firmly in place.

Power & PoliticsIt seems the Lompoc Record, bless its earnest little heart, found a new way to state the obvious this week: candidates for supervisor want to supervise more spending. Specifically, on 'affordable housing.' Yes, that magical unicorn of government policy that never seems to get more affordable, just more expensive for the people who actually pay taxes. Apparently, both Valencia and Aguilera, vying for the seat vacated by Lavagnino (who, we can only assume, fled the scene before the real budget carnage began), have decided that showering the Santa Maria Valley with more taxpayer-subsidized domiciles is the paramount issue. Because nothing says 'fiscal responsibility' like doubling down on programs that have consistently failed to lower housing costs, instead creating perpetual demand for more subsidies.
One can almost hear the developers' champagne corks popping already. It’s a tale as old as time, or at least as old as the latest tax hike: a problem is identified, government vows to fix it, and suddenly, politically connected construction firms and 'non-profit' housing groups get very, very rich. The only thing that becomes 'affordable' is the ease with which our elected officials can funnel public funds into pet projects under the guise of compassion. Meanwhile, actual homeowners and renters, who see their taxes and rents climb higher than a California redwood, are told to just keep calm and carry on.
And let's be honest, the 'Whipping Post Take' here is simple: these candidates aren't offering solutions; they're offering more of the same tired, socialist-lite policies that got us into this mess. True affordability comes from less regulation, less red tape, and less government interference in the market, not from expanding the public trough. But don't expect the mainstream media, including our friends over at the Lompoc Record, to ask those hard questions. It's much easier to print campaign platitudes about 'shared priorities' than to challenge the narrative that big government is the answer to everything.
