Santa Maria recently hosted a 'meet and greet' for a sextet of Central Coast political hopefuls, an event so thrilling Noozhawk felt compelled to inform the populace. The big question, naturally, wasn't about the candidates' policies (those are predictable enough) but rather, who exactly decided this particular lineup constituted a 'community service' worth promoting? One can almost hear the soft hum of progressive non-profits and campaign coffers working in tandem, churning out another carefully curated parade of tax-and-spend enthusiasts.

While the local fish wrap breathlessly reported on the opportunity for residents to 'hear from' these aspiring office-holders, they failed to ask the crucial questions. For instance, what deep-pocketed special interests are backing these bids for power? Is it the same old cast of developers eager for zoning variances, or perhaps the perpetually expanding bureaucracy craving ever-larger budgets and more 'inclusive' mandates? The public deserves to know if this was a genuine outreach or just another well-funded photo op for the Left's next wave of government expansionists.

What taxpayers truly needed to hear was a commitment to fiscal sanity, to reining in the runaway spending that’s become a hallmark of our local progressive leadership, and to actually addressing the real issues like rampant crime and declining quality of life, instead of virtue signaling on climate change or whatever the latest federal dictate from the Biden-Harris-Obama regime (or lack thereof) was. But alas, expect more of the same tired rhetoric designed to fleece the common citizen while consolidating more power in the hands of the already entrenched political class. The only 'meet and greet' that matters is when voters meet their ballots and reject this charade.
