SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES DODGE TOUGH QUESTIONS... FROM 12-YEAR-OLDSPower & Politics
Noozhawk · The Whipping Post · NO.716 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-6AK

In what Noozhawk hilariously framed as a high-stakes interrogation, candidates for the Santa Barbara School Board recently endured a rigorous questioning session from middle schoolers. We're told these pint-sized inquisitors pressed candidates on the most pressing issues of our time, like, apparently, YouTube access and 'AI' — because nothing says robust civic engagement like a pre-teen trying to figure out how to cheat on their next essay with ChatGPT, or why they can't watch cat videos in class. One imagines the candidates, seasoned experts in extracting tax dollars for questionable initiatives, were quaking in their Birkenstocks.

The real story, of course, isn't whether these candidates can articulate a coherent vision for educational excellence (spoiler: they can't), but whether they can keep a straight face while pretending to take seriously questions about social media from a demographic whose primary concern is probably getting more screen time. Meanwhile, parents and taxpayers, who actually fund this bureaucratic circus, remain largely unheard as the district continues to churn out mediocrity while demanding ever-larger budgets. But hey, at least the kids got to feel important for a day, which is apparently a 'learning outcome' now.

The Whipping Post Take? The only thing tougher than these candidates' hides was the elementary-level soft-balling that passed for 'journalism.' What's truly missing from these discussions is any real accountability for academic decline, ballooning administrative costs, or the steady march of progressive indoctrination masquerading as 'curriculum.' Perhaps next time, instead of asking about AI, the students can ask why their math scores are plummeting and why their parents are paying through the nose for the privilege. That might actually be a 'tough question' for the board.
