SANTA MARIA'S WOKE COUNCIL BOTTLES IT, CITIZENS ACTUALLY SHOW UP!

Well, bless their little progressive hearts! Santa Maria’s City Council, clearly a beacon of courage and conviction, reportedly canceled a meeting last week due to 'safety concerns.' One almost pictures a horde of angry taxpayers with pitchforks and torches demanding accountability, rather than, say, a few loudmouths disrupting decorum. KSBY News, ever so dutifully, reported on the ensuing confusion as actual citizens, bless their naïve souls, apparently still believe their elected officials are there to, you know, govern.

The real story, naturally, isn't the 'safety concerns' — because we all know Santa Maria is practically a war zone, right? No, the real story is the ever-increasing fragility of our local governing bodies. One peep of dissent, one strongly worded email, and suddenly it's 'unsafe' to conduct the people's business. Perhaps they're just not used to hearing opinions that don't come pre-approved by the usual cadre of activists and taxpayer-funded 'community organizers.' It's almost as if some council members prefer governing only when everyone nods in polite, progressive agreement.

And for whom were these alleged 'safety concerns' actually protecting? One can only assume it was the delicate sensibilities of council members who might, heaven forbid, have to listen to a constituent with a different viewpoint for more than three minutes. Meanwhile, the actual residents, the ones paying the bills, still showed up wanting answers, because some of us still believe in things like civic duty and holding our leaders accountable. The only thing truly unsafe here is the rapidly eroding patience of taxpayers with these perpetually pearl-clutching bureaucrats.
