SANTA MARIA'S 'FUTURE FOCUS': MORE TAXES, MORE HOUSING, FEWER FREEDOMSFollow the Money
Noozhawk · The Whipping Post · NO.970 · PANEL 1/6 · SB-4JM

Santa Maria's unelected overlords, fresh from their annual 'State of the City' sermon at Allan Hancock College, announced their bold new plan for the future, which, predictably, involves even more 'housing' and 'jobs' – the classic government-speak for 'let us micromanage your life while we spend your money.' Noozhawk, ever the diligent stenographers, dutifully reported that the city is at a 'pivotal point' and residents must decide on 'quality of life.' Spoiler alert: the decision has already been made for you, pal.

The real 'future' being mapped out isn't about thriving communities, but about ever-expanding tax bases and compliant citizens. When they talk about 'accommodating expected growth,' they mean more regulations, more fees, and more chances for well-connected developers to cash in on high-density projects that nobody actually asked for. It's a miracle they didn't hand out commemorative shovels for digging deeper into taxpayer pockets.

Funny how the 'serious financial issues' always seem to coincide with plans to expand government reach, isn't it? Perhaps if the city focused less on 'mapping futures' and more on getting out of the way of free enterprise, Santa Maria might actually prosper. Instead, prepare for more 'planned' communities where the only thing guaranteed to grow is the bureaucratic overhead and the irritation of property owners.

It’s always the same song and dance from these municipal maestros: 'The future is now, and it looks exactly like more government!' Meanwhile, actual residents, who pay the bills, are left wondering if their 'quality of life' includes the option of not being lectured to by self-important city planners. We're betting the answer is a resounding 'no,' followed by another property tax hike.
