The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
POWER TO THE PEOPLE? NAH, POWER TO THE BUREAUCRATS!
As usual, local officialdom is 'considering' plunging thousands into medieval darkness, all in the name of 'public safety' (and probably a new tax surcharge).

The DispatchNoozhawk reports the utterly predictable: another Santa Barbara heatwave, another round of Southern California Edison and PG&E 'considering' public safety power shutoffs. Because nothing says 'modern, efficient infrastructure' like preemptively turning off the lights and AC during triple-digit temperatures. It's truly a testament to progressive governance that the best solution for high winds and heat is to revert to a pre-industrial state, forcing residents to wonder if their frozen dinners will last longer than their patience.
One has to wonder if these endless 'considerations' are simply a performance for the Public Utilities Commission, a bureaucratic dance to avoid liability while demanding higher rates. Convenient, isn't it? Our esteemed leaders and the utility monopolies they regulate always find novel ways to inconvenience taxpayers and homeowners, all while raking in profits and campaign donations. Maybe, just maybe, if they diverted some of their exorbitant salaries and 'equity' initiatives into actual grid hardening and maintenance, these annual Dark Ages festivals wouldn't be necessary.
But that would be too logical, too pro-citizen. Instead, we’ll get stern warnings and the vague promise of 'community resource centers' – likely overflowing with warm bottled water and even warmer platitudes from 'concerned' local officials. It's almost as if the entire system is designed to showcase how utterly dependent and helpless the populace is without the benevolence of their government and government-sanctioned monopolies. This constant threat of power loss isn't about safety; it's about control, and a soft-gloved apology for decades of neglect while environmental mandates strangle any common-sense infrastructure upgrades. Another heatwave, another glorious failure of California's 'forward-thinking' energy policies.
