LOMPOC SETS UP ROADSIDE TAXATION BOOTH!

Our friends at Noozhawk, ever keen to report the thrilling mundane, inform us the Lompoc Police Department is planning another one of its Saturday night 'DUI Checkpoints.' We here at The Whipping Post applaud the Lompoc PD for their tireless work in keeping the streets safe from... well, from individual liberty and the spontaneous joy of a responsibly enjoyed adult beverage, apparently. Because nothing says 'freedom' quite like being randomly stopped, questioned, and potentially fined by an armed government agent on your way home from a hard week's work, all under the guise of public safety.

Let’s be honest, folks. These 'checkpoints' are less about catching dangerous criminals and more about a quick and easy revenue grab for the city coffers. It's a progressive's dream: create a problem by over-regulating, then offer a 'solution' that involves more government intrusion and, naturally, more fines. While actual criminals are likely avoiding the pre-announced, heavily publicized locations (thanks for the heads-up, Lompoc!), law-abiding citizens just trying to get home are subjected to what amounts to a roadside taxation booth.

One has to wonder if these checkpoints are truly the most effective use of our brave officers' time and taxpayer dollars. Or perhaps it's just easier to shake down a few late-night drivers than to tackle the real issues plaguing our communities. After all, it's far simpler to justify a budget increase by pointing to 'DUI arrests' than to admit that some bureaucratic solutions only create more headaches for those who actually pay the bills. President Trump's America is about empowering individuals, not subjecting them to arbitrary roadside inquisitions. Maybe Lompoc should take notes.
