Lompoc, the sleepy town best known for its flowers and its persistent ability to elect the same old faces, recently held another candidate forum. Noozhawk, ever vigilant in its reporting of local civic theater, dutifully covered the event, where mayoral and council hopefuls gathered to discuss their 'ideas' about 'issues.' One wonders if these 'ideas' extend beyond 'tax more, spend more, regulate more,' the usual trifecta of progressive governance.

Incumbent James Mosby and challenger Jeremy Ball apparently engaged in a spirited debate for the mayoral crown, alongside others vying for council seats. We’re told a 'standing-room-only crowd' attended, which either means Lompoc citizens are deeply engaged, or the venue had limited seating. Either way, the grand performance played out, with candidates no doubt assuring voters they possess the unique vision to steer Lompoc clear of… well, whatever it is that makes Lompoc Lompoc.

The real story, of course, isn't what was said on stage, but what wasn't. No doubt the usual suspects, beholden to union interests and development groups, were quietly pulling strings off-camera, ensuring the 'right' candidates got their moments in the sun. What about the skyrocketing pension obligations that are truly gutting the city budget? Or the endless red tape stifling local businesses? These are the real 'issues,' conveniently absent from the progressive talking points.

Our advice? Instead of listening to more empty promises, Lompoc, maybe try less government. It’s a radical idea, we know, but it worked for America for quite a while before all these 'experts' decided they knew best. And for the love of liberty, don't let them near your wallets.
