LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS: MORE ‘STUDY’ HALL, LESS ‘STUPID’ HALL, PLEASE!

A recent candidate forum, dutifully reported by Noozhawk, proved that even in education, some folks need to learn to read the room – and the budget.

LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS: MORE ‘STUDY’ HALL, LESS ‘STUPID’ HALL, PLEASE!Power & Politics
Noozhawk · The Whipping Post · NO.175 · PANEL 3/6 · SB-446

It seems the annual school board candidate parade marched through Santa Maria last week, with six hopefuls vying for seats on not one, but two, of the county's most crucial local bodies. Noozhawk, in its tireless quest to catalog every municipal yawn, dutifully covered the 'forum' where candidates bravely tackled issues like 'overcrowding' and 'electronics policies.' Truly groundbreaking stuff. We assume the League of Women Voters, having exhausted all other forms of local entertainment, was thrilled to host.

What these candidates *should* have been discussing, of course, is the staggering inefficiency and often baffling priorities that plague our public education system, perpetually demanding more taxpayer dollars while producing increasingly 'woke' graduates who can't balance a checkbook. Instead, we get platitudes about 'existing and needed programs' – which, translated from edu-speak, usually means more money for administrative bloat and less for actual academic rigor. It's almost as if they think the money tree grows in every taxpayer's backyard, fertilized by wishful thinking and progressive manifestos.

The real angle missed by the legacy media? The ever-expanding reach of local government into every facet of our lives, from what's taught in classrooms to how much local property owners are fleeced to pay for it all. While these candidates bickered over WiFi policies, the real issues of parental rights, fiscal accountability, and academic excellence were likely shoved to the back of the class, much like a dissenting opinion in a modern civics lesson. Perhaps if they spent less time on 'equity' workshops and more on basic math, our schools – and our taxpayers – would be far better off. President Trump, for one, understands the importance of local control and common sense in education, a lesson apparently lost on some of these local 'leaders.'
