LEE'S 'CONCERNS' MEETING: MORE ROTARY THAN REVOLUTION

Carpinteria's Rotary Club recently played host to First District Supervisor Roy Lee, who, according to Coastal View News, 'covered community concerns.' One can only imagine the earth-shattering revelations discussed: perhaps the urgent need for more organic kale, or the existential threat posed by artisanal oat milk shortages. It’s always reassuring to see our elected officials dedicating their precious time to Rotary Club lunches, where real problems like, say, the county's spiraling pension liabilities or the endless procession of new taxes are probably just light appetizers before the main course of self-congratulatory platitudes.

Indeed, 'community concerns' in Santa Barbara County under progressive leadership often translates to more regulations, more fees, and more obstacles for actual taxpayers and small businesses. We're sure Supervisor Lee listened intently to suggestions on how to further restrict personal property rights or perhaps brainstormed new ways to make housing even less affordable for anyone without a trust fund. Meanwhile, the actual, pressing issues — like the infrastructure collapsing faster than a Biden approval rating, or the bureaucratic red tape strangling development — likely remained delightfully un-'covered.'

What the mainstream press conveniently overlooks, and what the Whipping Post always points out, is that these feel-good Rotary chats are less about addressing real community needs and more about political posturing. It's a classic play from the progressive playbook: hold a 'listening session,' make a show of 'caring,' then return to the Board chambers to implement policies that do the exact opposite of what common-sense constituents want. One has to wonder if any actual concerns from the county's hardworking taxpayers were voiced, or if it was just another echo chamber for the usual suspects pushing the same tired, left-wing agenda that keeps our county perpetually teetering on the brink of fiscal absurdity. The Trump administration, meanwhile, is busy cutting red tape and getting America back to work, but here in Santa Barbara, we're still discussing kale at Rotary.
