The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
INDEPENDENT'S LATEST 'DOCUMENTARY' SHOCKER: WAR IS... BAD?!
Our local 'paper of record' breathlessly reports on a film that, gasp, reveals conflict causes suffering, surely a groundbreaking exposé for the perpetually enlightened.

The DispatchThe Santa Barbara Independent, never one to miss an opportunity to wag a finger at the complex geopolitics of, well, anywhere but our own backyard, is trumpeting a new documentary about doctors in Gaza. Apparently, it tells the 'grim tale' of 'Gazans' (we presume they mean the people, not the Hamas terrorists hiding among them) suffering, which, if you've been following the news from anywhere but the Independent's echo chamber, isn't exactly fresh intel. It's almost as if conflict zones are, by their very nature, unpleasant.
One can't help but wonder if the documentary features scenes of the millions in American cities struggling under the weight of Bidenomics, or perhaps a deep dive into the humanitarian crisis brewing right here in California's sanctuary cities thanks to open border policies. But no, that would require looking inward, and the self-appointed moral arbiters on the Left prefer to outsource their outrage to distant lands, especially when it allows them to subtly (or not so subtly) push a pre-approved narrative.
What's truly missing from this Independent-approved 'grim tale' is any mention of who benefits from sustained conflict, or the inconvenient truth that one side isn't exactly known for its Geneva Convention adherence. It’s always about the 'humanity' of the victims when it serves to demonize one nation, never about the humanity of those targeted by terrorists. Perhaps next, the Independent will alert us to a documentary on the shocking discovery that water is wet, or that politicians enjoy being re-elected. Truly, these insights are indispensable for our community, especially when they distract from real problems right here at home.
While we commend doctors for their work anywhere, the predictable hand-wringing from our local progressive press over a conflict half a world away, while ignoring rampant crime, collapsing infrastructure, and soaring living costs in their own county, is a masterclass in selective outrage. But then again, what else can you expect from those whose moral compass always points left, even when it means ignoring the compass entirely?
