The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
FINALLY! SUPERVISORS HONOR SOMETHING THAT ISN'T A RAINBOW FLAG OR A NEW TAX!
Your esteemed County Supervisors took a break from bankrupting the county to bestow an honor on an actual achievement, reminding everyone that culture still exists outside of endless DEI training.

In a truly shocking turn of events, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, usually found tripping over themselves to pass another resolution celebrating the latest progressive cause or rubber-stamping a new tax hike, actually managed to do something… cultured. Yes, the same body that seems to view your wallet as their personal slush fund and private property rights as optional, found time in their busy schedule of virtue signaling to honor Camerata Pacifica as Chamber Music America’s 2026 Ensemble of the Year.
One can only imagine the bewildered expressions on some supervisors' faces as they were handed a resolution that didn't involve 'equity,' 'sustainability,' or some newfangled consultant's report on how to spend more taxpayer dollars. Perhaps they thought 'chamber music' was a new type of artisanal coffee shop requiring another expensive study, or maybe a clandestine gathering of traditionalists they needed to denounce. Either way, it's a refreshing, albeit momentary, reprieve from the usual legislative opera of left-wing lunacy.
While we applaud Camerata Pacifica for their well-deserved recognition – a rare instance of actual excellence being celebrated by our increasingly mediocre local government – one has to wonder about the timing. Did someone finally realize that promoting actual artistic achievement might distract from the skyrocketing pension liabilities, the endless red tape stifling local businesses, or the ever-present housing crisis exacerbated by their own policies? Or perhaps this was just a convenient way to fill a Tuesday morning agenda slot without having to debate another half-baked scheme to ban internal combustion engines or rename a local park after a shrub.
Whatever the reason for this brief detour into civility and genuine accomplishment, we at The Whipping Post can only hope it’s not a one-off. Maybe, just maybe, our esteemed Supervisors will now remember that Santa Barbara County once stood for more than just endless regulations, bloated budgets, and the crushing weight of progressive ideology. Next, perhaps they can honor someone who balanced a budget, cut a tax, or, dare we dream, actually fixed a pothole without a twenty-page environmental impact report.
