KEYT NewsChannel 3-12 breathlessly reported this week that "civil rights icon" and "labor leader" Dolores Huerta descended upon Santa Barbara like a particularly stubborn political ghost, spouting her usual brand of warmed-over progressive pabulum.

Now 96 years young, one might hope Ms. Huerta would be enjoying a well-deserved retirement, perhaps tending a garden or reflecting on how her policies helped usher in California's current state of affairs. Instead, she’s still on the circuit, apparently confusing public speaking engagements with mandatory history lessons for the unsuspecting youth. The kids, undoubtedly more interested in TikTok and their next avocado toast, were treated to a message of "hope, activism, and community," which, translated from progressive-speak, usually means "more government, more taxes, and blaming others for your problems."

We here at The Whipping Post aren't entirely sure what 'Sueños to Success' is, but given the source material, we're betting it's less about actual success and more about dreaming up new ways to expand the public payroll. One has to admire the sheer tenacity of someone still pushing 1960s collectivist ideals in 2026, especially in a county that’s already a poster child for regulatory overreach. While the mainstream media swoons, we’re left to wonder if anyone bothered to tell Ms. Huerta that the Soviet Union dissolved and free markets generally work better than farmworker collectives.

Perhaps her next visit could include a brief tutorial on basic economics, property rights, or the unparalleled benefits of individual liberty. Or maybe just a nice, quiet nap. After all, even icons need a break from trying to turn Santa Barbara into a socialist utopia, a project that's proving as successful as California's high-speed rail.
