After years of weaponizing recalls against Republicans, the left is suddenly very concerned about the sanctity of the ballot box now that their own have been shown the door.

Santa Barbarans, prepare yourselves. The perpetually aggrieved DNC contingent, fresh from another, much larger electoral drubbing back in '24, has discovered a new crisis: recall elections. Specifically, they've realized recall elections are a 'problem' when the targets happen to be, you guessed it, Democrats. Suddenly, the very mechanism they championed and exploited for decades to oust officials they didn't like is now 'undemocratic' and 'disruptive.' The contortions these folks go through to maintain a permanent grip on power would make a Cirque du Soleil performer blush.

According to a regurgitated piece floating around, possibly even on our local Noozhawk, the left is pushing Prop. 5 to 'reform' recall rules. 'Reform,' in their dictionary, always means 'change to benefit us exclusively.' It's a classic move: if you can't win by the rules, change the rules. Our bet? The 'reforms' will make it practically impossible to recall anyone who identifies as a progressive, while simultaneously lowering the bar for any conservative brave enough to run for local office.

This isn't about protecting 'democracy'; it's about protecting incumbency for a party that's quickly losing its grip on the electorate's common sense. It's about ensuring that even when a radical agenda fails spectacularly, and the populace wants to say 'enough,' they'll be stymied by a thicket of new bureaucratic obstacles. Remember, these are the same folks who cheered when conservative officials faced recall, but now that they've been on the receiving end a few times – hello, former California Governor Gavin Newsom's near-miss, and a few more recent local debacles – they're clutching their pearls about 'voter fatigue' and 'disenfranchisement.'

What they're really fatigued by is the idea that voters might actually have a say in removing failing politicians. The real story here isn't the 'reform' of recall elections; it's the sheer audacity of a political machine attempting to legislate itself out of accountability. If the voters keep kicking out the left's darlings, perhaps the problem isn't the recall mechanism, but the darlings themselves.
