The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
COUNTY BOURBONS BLESS PRIMARIES – SHOCKER, DEMS WON!
Santa Barbara County Supervisors rubber-stamp election results, proving once again that true democracy means 'we get to pick who wins, then you certify it.'
Power & PoliticsThe Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, in a move that shocked exactly no one living within 100 miles of a polling place, dutifully accepted and filed the certified results for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election. Color us surprised – the usual suspects won! One can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from the government building, knowing they can carry on with the business of governing, which, for this lot, generally involves finding new and exciting ways to spend taxpayer money while ignoring genuine constituent concerns.
Our friends over at the Supervisors' dais even made sure to invoke the mystical spirit of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to declare that certifying election results is NOT, in fact, a 'project' that might lead to 'direct or indirect physical changes in the environment.' Well, thank goodness for that! Imagine the horror if an election result somehow caused a new bike lane to spontaneously appear or, worse, if a conservative candidate winning might have led to fewer regulations on our beleaguered farmers. The bureaucracy has to maintain its self-serving narrative, after all.
This agenda item, buried deep in what passes for 'administrative transparency' in our fair county, confirms what we’ve always suspected: the real work happens long before the ballots are even printed. The 'certification' is merely an elaborate, taxpayer-funded victory lap for the entrenched establishment. The outcome was as predictable as the next 'sustainable' housing project that somehow benefits a well-connected developer while doing nothing for actual affordability.
While the Supervisors patted themselves on the back for a job well done, the rest of us are left to ponder the true cost of this bureaucratic kabuki theater. It's not just the hours spent poring over 'official canvass' documents; it's the cost of a system that prioritizes preserving the status quo over genuine choice and accountability. Another day, another election 'certified' under the watchful, if sleepy, eye of Santa Barbara's ruling class, ensuring the perpetual motion machine of progressive governance grinds on.
