The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
CLEAN AIR EXPRESS FARES HIKED AGAIN: 'GREEN' GRAB ON WORKER WALLETS!
Your 'environmentally conscious' commute just got pricier as the Clean Air Express ushers in another round of inflation-busting fare increases, courtesy of SBCAG's grand plans.

Santa Barbara County’s working stiffs, already squeezed tighter than a budget line-item at a DNC fundraiser, are once again on the hook for another Clean Air Express fare hike starting July 1. This, we're told by the ever-vigilant chroniclers at outlets like Noozhawk, completes a 'three-year adjustment plan.' 'Adjustment' is certainly one way to describe what most folks call 'picking your pocket while you’re stuck in traffic.' Apparently, the 'clean air' part of the equation doesn't extend to the financial well-being of the commuters forced onto these buses by ever-tightening regulations and vanishing parking.
Now, three years ago, when this 'plan' was hatched, did anyone bother to factor in the current economic climate? Or perhaps SBCAG, like so many other county-run fiefdoms, operates on a different planet where gas prices are always falling and the price of eggs isn't a national crisis. It seems the only thing 'cleaned' in this whole 'Clean Air' charade is the spare change from your wallet. They tout ridership numbers, but then they jack up prices, making you wonder if the goal is actually public transport, or just another revenue stream for an ever-expanding bureaucracy.
What Noozhawk, in its typical 'just the facts, ma'am' fashion, glosses over is the relentless push-and-pull between these 'green' initiatives and the actual cost of living in Santa Barbara. Every single progressive mandate, every new 'sustainable' program, inevitably translates into higher costs for the average taxpayer and commuter. It’s a classic bait-and-switch: promise a cleaner tomorrow, then charge an arm and a leg for a slightly less smoggy today. Meanwhile, private vehicles, if they can even afford gas after all the new taxes, remain the only truly reliable option for many.
So, as SBCAG’s 'final phase' kicks in, let's just call it what it is: another regressive tax on the working class, dressed up in eco-friendly rhetoric. The 'Clean Air Express' is just another express route to higher expenses, proving once again that government-run solutions are rarely 'clean,' especially when it comes to your bank account. Perhaps next they'll mandate we pay an 'oxygen surcharge' just for breathing the 'improved' air.
