The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
CITY COUNCIL HOPEFULS DEBATE VITAL ISSUES, LIKE WHICH WAY IS UP
Noozhawk reports District 4 candidates offered 'visions' for Santa Barbara, which we assume involved more tax dollars and less common sense, as usual.

Power & PoliticsAnother Wednesday night, another 'forum' where Santa Barbara City Council hopefuls gathered to share their 'visions' for the city’s future. According to Noozhawk, the usual suspects were on hand, presumably to explain how they plan to solve problems that wouldn't exist if they'd stop creating them. Apparently, the hot topics included State Street, the city budget (ever-expanding, like a bureaucrat’s waistline), and, bizarrely, ICE. Because, of course, a city council race in Santa Barbara needs to weigh in on federal immigration enforcement, as if they're about to deputize every parking meter attendant.
One can only imagine the sheer delight of the dozen-or-so attendees who showed up to hear these luminaries wax poetic about 'community' while subtly signaling their allegiance to whatever progressive pieties are currently in vogue. It’s a performance art piece, really, where candidates compete to see who can promise the most spending with the least accountability, all while avoiding any mention of the crushing regulatory burden on small businesses or the city's baffling priorities. One can only hope a strong, common-sense conservative candidate is waiting in the wings to cut through this rhetorical fog and bring some fiscal discipline to the city's champagne tastes on a taxpayer's beer budget.
Let’s be honest, the real 'vision' these candidates are selling is more of the same: more regulations, more pet projects, and more hand-wringing over issues far beyond their purview, all while ignoring the basic responsibilities of keeping the streets clean and the budget balanced. The local progressive establishment will ensure their preferred candidate gets a plump pension and a pat on the back, leaving taxpayers to wonder if anyone in city hall actually understands how a municipality is supposed to function. Maybe next time they'll discuss which shade of beige is most equitable for municipal waste bins.
