Follow the MoneyCarpinteria, the sleepy seaside town, is apparently wide awake enough for another dose of local politics, if Noozhawk’s recent dispatch is to be believed. We’re told a twenty-year council fixture is finally exiting stage left, prompting a high-stakes showdown between a Planning Commissioner and a parole agent supervisor. While the establishment media frames this as a riveting contest for 'big shoes' to fill, here at The Whipping Post, we see the real story: another opportunity for the perpetually 'concerned' to dictate how everyone else should live and spend their money.
The current Planning Commissioner, predictably, has received the establishment's blessing, which in Carpinteria usually means more virtue-signaling pronouncements on housing density and 'sustainable' regulations that strangle small businesses. Her background on the Planning Commission practically guarantees a continuation of the same bureaucratic bloat that makes it impossible for anyone to build anything sensible without navigating a Byzantine maze of permits and 'community input' from the usual vocal minority.
Then there's the parole agent supervisor, a man who presumably deals with real-world consequences, which might be a refreshing change if he isn't instantly absorbed into the prevailing progressive orthodoxy that dominates Santa Barbara County. What's truly missing from this narrative, and what Noozhawk conveniently overlooks, is any discussion of fiscal responsibility. Will either candidate dare to challenge the runaway spending, pension liabilities, or the never-ending parade of 'social programs' that always seem to require more of the taxpayer's hard-earned cash? Or are Carpinteria residents simply choosing between two different ways their property values will be micromanaged and their tax bills inflated? Our money's on the latter.
One thing's for certain: while Trump's America is booming with sound economic policy, these hyper-local races too often boil down to which progressive will find new and exciting ways to spend other people's money and regulate their lives into oblivion. Carpinteria deserves better than another four years of 'consensus' that inevitably leads to higher costs and fewer freedoms.
