CARPINTERIA COMMISSIONERS APPROVE NEW HOTEL FOR ALL THEIR OUT-OF-TOWN PALSDevelopment
Coastal View News · The Whipping Post · NO.296 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-7DE

The Carpinteria Planning Commission, a body known for its searing intellect and unwavering commitment to taxpayer sanity, has bravely voted 3-1 to approve the Surfliner Inn. After over three hours of what Coastal View News charitably called 'deliberations,' our local overlords decided that Carpinteria desperately needs another 36 rooms to house the steady stream of virtue-signaling tourists and bureaucratic bloat that increasingly defines our fair county. We're sure the careful caveats about 'rooftop events' and 'noise' will be strictly enforced, just like every other planning restriction ever devised by local government. We're also sure this project has absolutely nothing to do with campaign donations or the usual back-room handshakes that grease the wheels of progress in our transparent, democratic system.

One can only imagine the arduous mental gymnastics required for a 3-1 vote on something as straightforward as a hotel. Perhaps they were debating the proper thread count for the protest banners, or whether to install a mandatory organic kombucha tap in the lobby. The sheer burden of deciding where the next wave of affluent out-of-towners will lay their heads must be crushing. It’s almost as if some people don't want new businesses and jobs, preferring instead to keep Carpinteria a sleepy, self-important hamlet where only the 'right' kind of people can afford to visit or live.

Of course, the 'impacts on neighboring properties' mentioned are always the last-minute fig leaf thrown over decisions already made behind closed doors. Rest assured, the developers, who no doubt have deep pockets and even deeper connections, will ensure that the 'community' benefits in all the ways that benefit them. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens can continue to enjoy the delightful traffic, rising property values, and the subtle aroma of public funds being redirected into private hands. Another day, another win for progress in the People's Republic of Santa Barbara County.
