CARPINTERIA APPOINTS 'JOJO' TO ARCHITECTURAL BOARD: IS THIS A COMEDY?Power & Politics
Noozhawk · The Whipping Post · NO.895 · PANEL 4/6 · SB-4K1

Carpinteria announced a new member for its Architectural Review Board, a fellow named Ildefonso 'Jojo' Fanone, and frankly, the Whipping Post has questions. Noozhawk, in its typical breathless reporting, seemed to miss the forest for the trees, focusing on the bureaucracy rather than the glaring question: Is 'Jojo' the official title of this position now, or simply a sign that the city is so flush with cash they can afford to treat serious policy as a game of musical chairs?

This appointment, decided by the City Council no less, continues the grand tradition of putting... well, someone... in charge of aesthetic decisions for an entire beach town. We're not saying Mr. Fanone isn't qualified, but given the current state of local government fiscal prudence, one has to wonder if this board, like so many others, is less about architectural review and more about providing cushy sinecures for those who know the right people. How many expensive, taxpayer-funded 'advisory' bodies does one small town truly need to decide if a new patio cover matches the existing stucco?

The real story, as always, lies beyond the surface. Is this 'Jojo' an independent voice, or another cog in the machine that greenlights every developer's pet project, regardless of actual community benefit or fiscal sanity? Given the left's penchant for committees, commissions, and boards to dictate every aspect of daily life, it's fair to ask whether this new member represents genuine expertise or just another tick box for progressive governance. Perhaps Carpinteria should appoint a 'Jojo' to review its budget before it reviews another façade. That, dear readers, would be a novel idea.
