The real story, consistently ignored by the local press, is not that Carpinteria *needs* more money, but that its left-leaning leadership *wants* more money to fund an ever-expanding bureaucracy and boutique initiatives. It's the classic progressive playbook: create a problem, then demand more taxpayer cash to 'solve' it, usually by throwing it at another government program that delivers diminishing returns. One wonders how many 'housing equity' consultants or 'climate resilience' studies this new tax will fund, all while essential services like road repairs mysteriously remain underfunded.
