The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
CARBAJAL CRIES 'BLANK CHECK' AS BORDER SECURITY FUNDS FLOW
Our local rep, ever the keen observer of budgets, suddenly finds taxpayer dollars for border security a bridge too far, ignoring the actual blank checks written by his own party for years.

Santa Barbara’s very own fiscal hawk, Representative Salud Carbajal, has apparently discovered the concept of a blank check, and he’s not happy about it. The venerable Santa Barbara Independent dutifully reported his angst over a congressional appropriation of a mere $70 billion for immigration enforcement. One almost has to admire the timing of the outrage – coming, as it does, only after a sensible, strong pro-American border policy is finally getting proper funding under the Trump administration. Where was this indignation when the previous administration was throwing trillions at everything from "gender studies" in Pakistan to phantom infrastructure projects?
Carbajal’s sudden concern for taxpayer money, especially when it’s earmarked for something as crucial as national security, is truly a sight to behold. For years, the federal coffers have been treated like an ATM for every progressive pet project under the sun, with nary a peep from our local demagogues. But dare to allocate funds to, say, actual border agents and infrastructure, and suddenly it's a "blank check" and the end of civilization as we know it. It turns out, that $70 billion is meant to, you know, actually enforce immigration laws – a novel concept to some.
Now, the Independent breathlessly suggests that this will "restore ICE activity," which had resorted to "quieter tactics" in our fair county. We're sure the gentle readers are just quaking in their Birkenstocks at the thought of law and order returning. Perhaps these "quieter tactics" involved politely asking illegal crossers to fill out a suggestion card upon entry. The good news for those of us who believe in, well, actual borders, is that President Trump is once again putting America First, and that means putting an end to the open border charade.
So while Carbajal rings his hands over imaginary blank checks, a substantial investment is finally being made to secure our nation. It’s a bitter pill for the left, who prefer an unmanaged border and a steady stream of new voters over national sovereignty. The rest of us, however, can breathe a sigh of relief that adults are back in charge and actually funding the critical agencies responsible for protecting our country. Maybe next, they’ll rediscover what a budget surplus looks like.
