BUELLTON COUNCIL APPROVES 'FALL FESTIVAL,' TAXPAYERS GET THE SHAFT AGAIN
Local bureaucrats greenlight another 'community event' on the taxpayers' dime, proving that if you give them a penny, they'll demand a Ferris wheel and a mime troupe.

Power & PoliticsIt seems Buellton’s City Council, in a stunning display of fiscal responsibility, has rubber-stamped a 'special event permit' and, naturally, a 'funding request' for their annual 'Fall Festival.' Noozhawk, ever the diligent purveyor of municipal press releases, breathlessly reported that this grand spectacle will feature carnival rides, live stages, and, undoubtedly, an array of artisan goat cheeses nobody asked for. Because when has a city council ever met an expenditure it didn’t like, especially when it promises 'community engagement' and 'vibrant cultural experiences' on the public's dime?
One has to wonder what pressing infrastructure project or tax relief measure was sacrificed on the altar of cotton candy and cover bands. It’s always the same song and dance: a perfectly capable private sector could host such a jamboree, but why let them when the city can step in, inflate the budget, and plaster their name on it? This isn’t a fall festival; it’s a government-sponsored re-election campaign disguised as family fun.
While ordinary citizens grapple with rising costs and the ever-present threat of new regulations on their backyard sheds, our civic leaders are busy orchestrating yet another taxpayer-funded shindig. The real 'special event' here is the continued audacity of local government to treat public funds like a personal petty cash drawer for frivolous celebrations. Perhaps next year, instead of subsidizing inflatable bouncy castles, they could try, say, not raising property taxes.
