BOOM! BOARD BUYS BIGGER BUREAUCRACY BOX, TAXPAYERS GET THE BILL!

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, in its infinite wisdom and boundless capacity for fiscal alchemy, recently rubber-stamped an agenda item designed to Hoover up nearly a cool million from Sacramento for 'transitional housing' programs. Because nothing says 'solving the housing crisis' like funneling more cash into state-run programs that seem to perpetually transition people from one problem to the next, while never quite solving anything permanently. It’s a classic shell game where the pea is your tax dollars and the 'winners' are invariably more bureaucrats and consultants.

Our local Solons, ever keen to avoid accountability, neatly declared this multi-million dollar handout 'not subject to CEQA.' That's right, folks! While regular citizens need an act of Congress just to paint their garage, the Board can blithely approve actions that will inevitably lead to — you guessed it — more concrete, more traffic, and more 'housing' that never quite materializes for the average working family, all without so much as a peep from the environmental watchdogs. Funny how 'administrative activity' never seems to involve actual administration when it comes to the public’s input.

One has to wonder if these 'transitional' funds are merely transitioning from the State Capitol straight into the padded pockets of politically connected non-profits and development interests. While regular folks struggle with inflation and property taxes, our supervisors are busy cultivating new revenue streams for the progressive machine, all under the guise of compassion. Perhaps if they spent less time applying for grants and more time cutting red tape, housing might actually become affordable for those who *earn* their way in this county, instead of perpetually 'transitioning' on the taxpayer's dime.
