The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors

AMPHITHEATER UPGRADE: WHAT'S THE REAL SHOW GOING ON, SUPERVISORS?

Our esteemed Supervisors just greenlit half a million to spruce up a campfire stage, but The Whipping Post knows the true spectacle isn't on the bill, it's in the backroom deals.

AMPHITHEATER UPGRADE: WHAT'S THE REAL SHOW GOING ON, SUPERVISORS?Power & Politics
SB County Board of Supervisors · The Whipping Post · NO.405 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-1EW

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, in their infinite wisdom and bottomless taxpayer-funded coffers, recently rubber-stamped a cool $569,819.00 — plus another $40,990.00 in 'surprise' change orders — to renovate the Cachuma Fireside Amphitheater. Yes, you heard that right. While average citizens tighten their belts under the crushing weight of inflation unleashed by left-wing spending policies, our local overlords are ensuring county-owned campgrounds get state-of-the-art marshmallow-roasting facilities.

Now, the Board of Supervisors, in typical bureaucratic fashion, declares 'no new environmental document shall be prepared' because, naturally, fixing a stage used for folk songs won't harm a single endangered butterfly. This is the same CEQA logic that lets them build bike lanes through pristine habitats while screaming about car emissions. One has to wonder, did they even check if the wood for the new stage was sustainably harvested from a *certified* woke forest? Probably not. They were too busy ensuring the 'lowest responsible bidder,' Coastal Excavation and Construction Inc., got their slice of the pie.

But let's not be naive. This isn't just about a slightly less splintery bench for acoustic guitarists. Digging deeper, it's always fascinating how these 'infrastructure improvements' coincidentally align with favored contractors and future development plans. Who benefits most from a swankier amphitheater at a county park? Perhaps those who want to host larger, more lucrative events there, paving the way for more 'public-private partnerships' down the line? It’s almost as if half a million dollars is a down payment on something much grander, and far more profitable for a select few, than a mere campfire sing-along stage. The silent money trail speaks volumes, even if the Board's agenda item only whispers. Meanwhile, your property taxes just keep marching upwards, funding their grand designs, one glorified campfire pit at a time.
