WOMEN'S FUND TARGETS 'FOOD INSECURITY' WITH MORE TALKING, LESS DOING

Noozhawk reports the Women’s Fund is once again assembling its crack team of 'experts' for a roundtable discussion on that most pressing of issues: 'food insecurity' in Santa Barbara. Because, as everyone knows, the best way to get food to hungry people is to hold a free event (for the attendees, not the taxpayers funding it) and talk about it really, really hard. Perhaps they believe if enough well-meaning speeches are given, manna will magically appear in every low-income household in the county.

One can only imagine the groundbreaking insights that will emerge from this latest 'Grants in Action' confab. Will it be discovered that food costs money? Or that perhaps inflation, driven by irresponsible government spending, makes groceries less affordable? Or will the 'experts' conclude, as always, that what’s truly needed is more government grants, more committees, and more events just like this one, further expanding the non-profit industrial complex while actual solutions remain elusive?

Here's the Whipping Post take: while the Women's Fund certainly means well, their approach often smacks of the classic limousine liberal's solution: throw a few hundred thousand dollars at a 'program,' convene a panel of 'thought leaders' who agree with each other, and call it progress. Meanwhile, the actual cost of living in Santa Barbara County, driven ever skyward by progressive housing policies and suffocating regulations, continues to make true economic security a distant dream for many. Maybe, just maybe, if they stopped funding endless discussions and started advocating for policies that lower taxes, reduce red tape, and foster genuine economic opportunity, people wouldn't need a roundtable to figure out how to put food on the table. But that would require less talking and more actual conservative economic sense, wouldn't it?
