UCSB'S ENDLESS 'PLANNING' FOR SEA RISE: TAXPAYER-FUNDED SANDCASTLE CONTEST?Development

It seems UC Santa Barbara, that beacon of academic excellence and beachfront property, has decided that the best way to tackle the 'looming' threat of sea-level rise is to hold a town hall. Yes, while President Trump's administration is busy drilling for energy and securing our borders, UCSB is busy — you guessed it — *planning*.

According to a recent report by Noozhawk, the campus wants 'community comments' on adapting to a phenomenon that has baffled scientists for millennia, or at least since the last time a grant check was due. One must wonder if these 'comments' will include suggestions for building a giant straw, or perhaps a truly innovative 'wet campus' concept where all buildings are submersible. Taxpayers, naturally, are footing the bill for this endless cycle of 'strategic planning' which seems designed less to solve problems and more to justify the existence of ever more highly-paid administrators and consultants.

Here’s the angle nobody else printed: While UCSB bloviates about future tides, the real rising problem is their administrative bloat and penchant for endlessly commissioning studies from the same pool of 'experts' who can tell you precisely how much more funding they’ll need next year. It’s a classic progressive bait-and-switch: conjure a crisis, then demand unlimited resources to 'plan' for it, all while ignoring real issues like out-of-control tuition and the indoctrination of students. Maybe instead of commenting on the ocean, the 'community' should comment on why their tax dollars are being sunk into these academic fantasylands.
