Breaking news from the Santa Barbara Independent: TV Santa Barbara, that reliable bastion of publicly-funded, tax-dollar-gobbling programming, is set to host an "historic interview" with "legendary civil rights leader and labor activist" Dolores Huerta. Well, bless their hearts. One has to admire the local PBS affiliate's unerring dedication to featuring only the most fawning, one-sided narratives available, especially when those narratives align perfectly with their own progressive agenda.

Indeed, nothing says 'unbiased public broadcasting' quite like giving a platform to someone lauded by the Left for decades, without the slightest hint of a balancing viewpoint or, dare we say, a probing question that might challenge the established hagiography. Viewers can no doubt anticipate a hard-hitting exchange where TVSB hosts politely lob softball questions, allowing the venerated activist to reminisce about her glory days of socialist-leaning labor organizing and other causes dear to the hearts of the Santa Barbara coastal elite. It's truly compelling television, if your idea of compelling is watching a mutual admiration society pat itself on the back.

One can only imagine the cutting-edge journalism that will emerge from this "historic" sit-down. Perhaps they'll finally uncover why, despite all the fiery rhetoric and unionizing, the average cost of produce in Santa Barbara continues its relentless march skyward, or how all that "activism" lines up with the wallets of the very same progressive politicians who champion it from their ocean-view mansions. Don't hold your breath for those tough questions. Instead, prepare for another hour of progressive platitudes, proving once again that public television excels at spending public money to preach to the choir.

While TV Santa Barbara prides itself on being a "community resource," events like this make it abundantly clear whose 'community' they truly serve. Perhaps if they ventured beyond their echo chamber, they might accidentally stumble upon a truly diverse viewpoint, or even, heaven forbid, a conservative one. But alas, we imagine that would be too much 'history' for one little public access station to handle.
