SUPERVISORS TO COMMEND CHAMPS... AFTER WEEKS OF TAXPAYER-FUNDED MEETINGS!

After weeks, probably months, of deliberations, committee meetings, and almost certainly a deeply philosophical debate on the true meaning of 'baseball,' our esteemed Supervisors are finally ready to officially commend the Santa Barbara Foresters for clinching the 2026 National Baseball Congress World Series Championship. One can only imagine the sheer expenditure of public funds and brainpower required to draft a resolution congratulating a winning team. Perhaps they even hired a diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant to ensure the commendation was sufficiently inclusive of all nine innings, irrespective of pitcher preference.

While the Foresters were busy winning on the field, our Supervisors, one presumes, were locked in the usual backroom bickering over bicycle lanes, banning gas stoves, or figuring out new ways to make housing unaffordable. It’s a wonder they even found the time to notice a local team brought home a national title. Did the team’s success threaten a protected species of slow-growth shrub? Was the victory too 'carbon-intensive'? These are the real questions that keep our progressive overlords up at night.

But let’s not be too cynical. The official commendation, as noted in the SB County Board of Supervisors agenda, is surely a landmark moment. It probably involved a team of interns poring over dusty almanacs to confirm baseball is, in fact, a sport, and not some arcane capitalist ritual. One wonders if any of the supervisors actually attended a game, or if they just saw a headline and thought, 'Hmm, this might make us look good for a change.' It’s the least they can do, considering the average citizen probably spends more time navigating county bureaucracy than watching an entire baseball season. Congratulations, Foresters, you’ve achieved what countless taxpayers cannot: getting the Supervisors to agree on something relatively simple without a public outcry or a new tax initiative attached.
