The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
SUPERVISORS’ IMMIGRATION ‘DEFENSE’ FUNDING EXTENDED: YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK!
Your benevolent County Supervisors, apparently flush with cash from legalized greenery, have once again graciously extended funding for 'legal defense' of illegal immigrants.
It seems the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, in their infinite wisdom and bottomless pockets, decided *again* to throw more taxpayer money at the Santa Barbara County Immigration Legal Defense Center. This week’s agenda item, cunningly disguised as an 'administrative item' for 'Mental Health Services Cannabis General Fund' (try saying that five times fast), is really just another gold star for the 'free services for everyone' crowd. Apparently, defending people who broke laws to get here is now considered 'mental health services' worthy of cannabis tax revenue. One has to wonder if the 'mental health' crisis they're addressing is the collective delusion of the Supervisors that this is a sustainable use of public funds.
While law-abiding citizens grapple with rising costs and declining services, our progressive overlords at the County are busy making sure that those who choose to ignore national borders have a robust legal team courtesy of the local taxpayer. It’s a remarkable sleight of hand: funneling 'cannabis general funds' (which, let's be honest, were supposed to repair our crumbling roads or perhaps, you know, mental health for actual citizens) into what amounts to a pro-illegal immigration advocacy group. The local dailies, of course, presented this with all the critical analysis of a grocery list, dutifully reprinting the official lingo without asking a single inconvenient question.
And let's not overlook the classic California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption – because obviously, providing legal services to illegal immigrants has absolutely no 'significant impact on the environment.' Sure, because more people needing housing, water, and infrastructure has never, ever, stressed California's precious (and increasingly taxed) resources. The Supervisors can declare anything a non-project when it suits their ideological agenda, all while ordinary folks jump through hoops for a shed permit. It’s almost as if they believe money grows on cannabis plants and that 'environmental review' is only for developers trying to build affordable housing, not for their pet projects. President Trump's administration must be thrilled to see how local governments are actively undermining federal immigration policy with local tax dollars.
