Your tax dollars will finally clear overgrown fire hazards, but only after county bureaucrats sign off on an agreement that takes longer than the average congressional session to approve.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, in their infinite wisdom, has finally decided to allow the Fire Department to... wait for it... clear brush! Yes, that terrifying, dry, highly flammable brush that has been waiting patiently for 2026-2028 to spontaneously combust is about to meet its match. For a cool $400,000, your dedicated Fire District will begin the arduous task of removing 'hazardous fuels,' but only after this meticulously crafted 'Agreement' finally works its way through the labyrinthine halls of bureaucracy.

One can only imagine the urgency of the wildfires we *didn't* have while this 'Agreement' was being hammered out. But fear not, taxpayers, because our Supervisors ensured the Fire Chief can make 'immaterial and/or budget amendments up to 10%' – because nothing says fiscal responsibility like pre-approved wiggle room for spending more of your money on top of the initial half-million.

And in a classic display of government efficiency, the Board also declared this brush-clearing exercise is *not* exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Apparently, even preventing apocalyptic wildfires might 'impact the environment.' We can all sleep soundly knowing that a stack of 'CEQA documents' was provided to the State *before* any actual fire prevention happened. Meanwhile, President Trump’s common-sense policies are busy cutting red tape nationwide, proving some people still believe in getting things done.
