SUPERVISOR HOPEFULS PROMISE 'AFFORDABLE HOUSING' MIRAGE, BLAME TRUMP FOR SUPPLYHousing Desk
Santa Maria Times · The Whipping Post · NO.376 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-6PK

Another day, another crop of local candidates, another round of the same tired promises. The Santa Maria Times breathlessly reported this week on Valencia and Aguilera, two aspirants for the Board of Supervisors, who have apparently discovered that 'affordable housing' is a topic residents care about. Astounding insight, truly. It's almost as if they've been handed a progressive playbook written in the blood of local taxpayers and told, 'Just read this, and you'll get votes.'

Naturally, both candidates are tripping over themselves to claim they're the one who can conjure up these mythical affordable abodes. What they won't tell you, of course, is that the very policies championed by their ideological ilk – endless regulations, punitive fees, and an absolute war on efficient development – are precisely what drove housing costs through the roof in the first place. It’s like setting your house on fire and then running for office on a platform of providing free fire extinguishers.

Funny how neither candidate mentioned the actual root causes: decades of bureaucratic bloat at the county planning department, the environmentalist cabal stifling every construction project with frivolous lawsuits, or the simple fact that if you print enough money, everything gets more expensive. Instead, we'll get more committees, more studies, and eventually, more bond measures to pay for more 'affordable' projects that magically exceed their budgets by 200%. The only thing truly affordable in this scenario is the delusion these candidates are selling.

So, while these hopefuls prattle on about 'solutions,' expect nothing to change. It's the same old song and dance from the same old party, promising a unicorn while simultaneously chopping down the forest where unicorns might actually live. Perhaps they should spend less time talking about 'equity' and more time talking about 'supply and demand' – a concept seemingly foreign to anyone aspiring to public office in California.
