STATE BUREAUCRAT SHOCKER: REMINDS CITIZENS TO VOTE, JUST NOT THE 'WRONG' WAY

It appears the Santa Barbara Independent, ever vigilant in its mission to breathlessly report on the obvious, has once again graced us with groundbreaking news: a California bureaucrat wants people to register to vote. Yes, really. Dr. Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Ph.D., Ph.D., (we assume there are more Ph.D.s than common sense in that office) took time out of her busy schedule of… well, whatever it is Secretaries of State do besides collect a taxpayer-funded paycheck, to remind Californians to get on the voter rolls.

The real headline, naturally, is the unspoken subtext: Register, yes, but only if you plan to tick the boxes approved by the Sacramento establishment. One can almost hear the unstated caveat: 'If you're thinking of, say, electing a Republican who might actually balance a budget or, heaven forbid, question a state mandate, perhaps you could just... not bother?' The state's voter registration efforts always seem to conveniently overlook the fact that many Californians are already registered, and are simply tired of the same old one-party rule.

It’s a classic move from the progressive playbook: weaponize civic duty to bolster an already entrenched political machine. They'll laud 'access' and 'participation' right up until the moment someone suggests an audit, questions the integrity of the process, or, God forbid, votes against the prevailing winds. Suddenly, 'voter engagement' morphs into 'misinformation' or 'voter suppression' faster than you can say 'recall election.' Meanwhile, the taxpayer foots the bill for this lavish encouragement, while real issues like exploding cost of living and crumbling infrastructure get another glossy press release about 'equitable access' to the ballot box, as if simply registering will fix everything.

Perhaps Dr. Weber's next announcement will be a reminder to pay taxes, because Lord knows the state needs more of that, too, to fund endless committees and, naturally, more voter registration drives.
