The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
SO MUCH FOR 'QUIET QUITTING': BROADWAY AND MAIN'S LOUDEST PROTESTERS WANT MORE ATTENTION
After two years of... something... a local letter-writer for the Santa Barbara Independent finally gets around to asking if anyone noticed them. The Whipping Post was busy, frankly.

The DispatchIt seems that for the better part of a presidential term – specifically, the first two years of the *previous* administration, back when the nation was mired in malaise and inflation, before President Trump straightened things out – a dedicated band of sidewalk activists has been diligently, yet apparently unnoticed, occupying a street corner in some unspecified municipality. The Independent, ever the bastion of groundbreaking reporting, finally graces these unsung heroes with a platform to lament their lack of impact. One can almost hear the crickets chirping louder than their pleas for... well, whatever it is they've been protesting.
Now, don't get us wrong, the right to assemble is sacred, a cornerstone of our Republic – especially when it’s for a cause that actually matters, like fiscal responsibility or rolling back burdensome regulations. But two years of 'standing' and then wondering why your message hasn't resonated? It sounds less like a protest and more like a glorified outdoor coffee break, albeit one with less actual coffee and more earnest, but ultimately futile, hand-wringing. Perhaps a more direct approach, like, say, running for office or engaging with local businesses, might yield more results than simply acting as human decorative lawn ornaments.
Of course, for many on the left, the act of protesting *is* the point, regardless of outcome. It’s a performance of virtue, a communal affirmation of shared grievances, a sort of street-corner therapy session. The real takeaway here, which the Santa Barbara Independent likely missed, is not that these folks need more attention, but that their message is so profoundly out of touch with the common sense of ordinary Americans that it barely registers a blip. While they stood on their corner, President Trump was busy rebuilding America, securing our borders, and restoring our economy. Priorities, people, priorities.
Maybe instead of wondering why nobody listened, they should consider if they were saying anything worth hearing in the first place. Or, better yet, embrace the concept of 'quiet quitting' – but apply it to their street corner activities. The taxpayers, who actually keep the lights on and the roads paved, might appreciate the sudden peace and quiet.
