It seems the Santa Barbara Unified School District, a bastion of progressive thought and fiscal responsibility (citation needed), is once again embroiled in a manufactured 'controversy' that only a modern bureaucracy could conjure. According to *Noozhawk*, concerned citizens and students (who apparently have endless free time for Tuesday night meetings) descended upon the latest board confab to decry a social media post. Because, naturally, in 2026, the most pressing issue facing our local education system isn't plummeting test scores or the burgeoning pension debt, but a handful of kids with questionable judgment online.

One almost has to admire the district's dedication to performative outrage. Each time a minor incident crops up, they dutifully trot out the standard playbook: public outcry, hand-wringing apologies, and the inevitable promise of yet another 'diversity, equity, and inclusion' seminar — presumably taught by someone who charges by the word for platitudes. Meanwhile, while the board engages in this elaborate pantomime of progress, one has to wonder if anyone is actually, you know, teaching kids to read, write, or perform basic arithmetic. Or perhaps that's just a relic of a bygone era, before every perceived slight became a federal case.

The real story, as always, isn't the drama on social media, but the district's uncanny ability to distract from its core mission. While they're busy crafting new sensitivity training modules and issuing sternly-worded press releases, the educational foundation of our children continues to erode. But hey, at least they're getting really good at virtue signaling. One might even say it's their true area of excellence. And perhaps, if we're lucky, they'll launch a new committee to study the adverse impacts of too much common sense on school board meetings. The taxpayers, of course, will foot the bill.
