It seems the Santa Barbara City Council, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that giving criminals a head start is the new standard for 'community engagement.' KSBY News, bless their hearts, reported on the council's decision to ponder the fate of the city's automated license plate reader program. "Pondering," of course, is progressive-speak for "actively seeking new ways to make taxpayers foot the bill for their own insecurity."

One must wonder if these council members, perhaps still reeling from the shock of President Trump's second term, are simply allergic to any technology that actually *works*. License plate readers are a proven tool for law enforcement, a force multiplier against the very types of petty (and not-so-petty) crime that plague our beautiful county. But alas, efficiency and common sense are clearly anathema to the coastal elite, who’d rather virtue-signal about privacy concerns than actually *protect* their constituents from the skyrocketing theft and brazen smash-and-grabs.

This isn't about privacy, folks; it's about control. It’s the Left's insidious drive to disempower police and empower bureaucrats. They don't want effective tools in the hands of the people who enforce the law; they want to create more 'studies' and 'committees' while car thieves make off with your catalytic converters. The real story here isn't the technology itself, it's the systemic aversion to proactive policing and the insistence on turning our cities into soft targets, all under the guise of 'reimagining' public safety. Perhaps they'd prefer to fund more 'restorative justice circles' where the perp and the victim can share feelings while the stolen goods are already halfway to Bakersfield.
