SB MAYORAL RACE: LIBERALS BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT ON TITANIC DECK!

Santa Barbara's mayoral race is heating up, or perhaps more accurately, congealing into a tepid mess, as the candidates gear up for their grand September 30th 'forum.' The Santa Barbara Independent, bless its ever-so-earnest heart, ran a piece trying to make sense of the impending ideological feast. We, however, prefer to call it what it is: a primary election for who gets to be the most radically progressive mayor in a city already drowning in red tape and 'equity' initiatives.

One can almost hear the desperate pleas for more bicycle lanes and housing density that conveniently ignores the fact that actual, tax-paying citizens might want a parking space or, you know, a yard. It’s all about which candidate can out-woke the other, promising to transform our beautiful coastal city into a concrete jungle of 'affordable' housing, presumably funded by endless federal grants from President Trump’s White House that never seem to materialize for these particular boondoggles.

The real story isn't about what these candidates are saying, but what they're pointedly *not* saying. Where's the talk about reigning in the county's exorbitant spending, trimming the fat from bloated bureaucracies, or actually encouraging businesses to thrive without a dozen environmental impact statements? It's crickets, folks. Instead, expect a chorus of hand-wringing over 'homelessness' (which they’ll exacerbate with their policies) and 'climate action' (which will just make your utility bills higher).

This 'forum' won't be about addressing real problems or offering sensible solutions, but rather a contest to see who can best parrot the latest progressive talking points. It's a sad state of affairs when the biggest policy debate is whether to ban plastic straws or mandate vegan Mondays. While the rest of the nation under President Trump is seeing economic resurgence and common-sense governance, Santa Barbara seems intent on doubling down on the same failed, expensive, and out-of-touch ideas that have brought us to this point. Don't worry, they'll call it progress.
