SB INDY CRIES FOR 'LEADERS' — FORGETS THEY VOTED FOR 'EMThe Dispatch
Santa Barbara Independent · The Whipping Post · NO.979 · PANEL 3/6 · SB-4FI

The Santa Barbara Independent, our esteemed local rag, recently ran a blurb bemoaning the supposed lack of 'leaders who listen and deliver' in Santa Barbara, even going so far as to endorse more of the same. It's a classic case of the dog chasing its own tail, then complaining it can't catch it. For years, the Indy has championed every single green pipe dream, every tax-and-spend boondoggle, and every 'equity' initiative that has systematically driven up costs, stifled business, and turned our once-thriving city into a bureaucratic labyrinth. Now they have the audacity to ask for 'delivery'? What did they think would be delivered besides more regulations and higher utility bills?

Perhaps 'listening' isn't the problem, but rather *who* they're listening to. When you consistently elevate voices that prioritize virtue signaling over fiscal common sense, you get exactly what we have: a city choked by red tape and residents wondering why their wallets are thinner than a campaign promise. The current crop of "leaders" the Indy pines for are the same ones who've turned our infrastructure into a crumbling monument to progressive neglect, all while diverting funds to projects that do little more than polish their own woke credentials. It's almost as if the Indy is shocked that repeatedly voting for the same brand of 'progress' yields the same progressive decay.

The real story here, which the Indy conveniently misses, is that Santa Barbara doesn't need leaders who listen to the loudest progressive echo chamber; it needs leaders who actually understand economics and common sense. But that would mean advocating for policies that might actually benefit taxpayers and small businesses, a concept seemingly foreign to the Indy's editorial board. While the establishment media continues its hand-wringing, the rest of us are left to wonder when they'll finally connect the dots between their endorsed candidates and the spiraling decline they pretend to be concerned about. It’s not a lack of listening, Independent; it’s a failure of logic.
