This tidy sum, we're told, is for a 'new site' and 'wraparound services' complete with 'advanced forensic and recording technology' to provide 'next-generation trauma-informed care.' Sounds awfully progressive, doesn't it? One might even say... bureaucratic.

Now, anyone with a lick of common sense knows that while helping victims is paramount, the devil is always in the details – specifically, the details of how taxpayer dollars are spent. A quarter-million dollars for a 'cottage relocation' and undefined 'wraparound services' in a town notorious for its bloated budgets and endless administrative bloat raises a few crimson flags. Are we to believe that the existing SART services were somehow subpar, or is this simply another opportunity to funnel federal funds into an ever-expanding ecosystem of 'trauma experts' and 'equity consultants' who seem to thrive more on grants than on tangible results?

This isn't about supporting survivors; it's about supporting an industry. This 'next-generation' care invariably means more forms, more jargon, more highly-paid administrators, and less direct impact for the victims themselves. While the local politicos and their pet non-profits pat themselves on the back for securing 'federal resources' (read: YOUR money, borrowed and printed into oblivion by the current Washington regime), one wonders if a simpler, more direct approach – like, say, robust policing and swift justice for criminals – might be a tad more effective. But that wouldn't require a six-figure grant for a 'cottage,' would it? That's not very 'trauma-informed' for the bureaucracy's bottom line.
