SACRAMENTO SLUSH FUND: LOCAL DEMS CASH IN ON STATE 'EARMARKS'
Your tax dollars, meticulously hoarded from your hard-earned paycheck, are now joyfully redistributed to Santa Barbara's favorite 'local projects' by our benevolent progressive overlords.

Follow the MoneyIt appears the fine folks at Noozhawk have finally stumbled upon a story of fiscal wizardry, breathlessly reporting that Santa Barbara County is slated to receive a whopping $70 million in state earmarks. How utterly charming! What they somehow missed, in their rush to print the press release, is that 'earmarks' is just government-speak for 'let's funnel taxpayer cash to pet projects that benefit our donors and political allies, disguised as public good.'
Naturally, these 'specific earmarks' were tucked away in Assembly Bill 113, part of a grand statewide tradition of politicians divvying up a cool $1.3 billion in 'bonus funds.' Bonus for whom, exactly? Certainly not for the struggling small businesses or families trying to afford gas, rent, and groceries in a state that seems determined to legislate them into oblivion. No, these 'bonuses' are the progressive equivalent of finding money under the sofa cushions, except the sofa is upholstered with the dreams of California taxpayers.
While the specific recipients remain coyly unlisted in the Noozhawk piece – imagine that! – one can safely assume these millions will flow into the usual bureaucratic black holes: 'equity' initiatives, 'sustainable' boondoggles, and various non-profits run by friends of friends who know how to fill out grant applications with just the right amount of buzzwords. It's a tale as old as time, or at least as old as the last legislative session: Sacramento collects your money, then doles it out to their chosen few, all while patting themselves on the back for their generosity. Meanwhile, the actual cost of living here continues to climb higher than a drone delivering DoorDash to a Montecito mansion.
President Trump's economy, focused on tax cuts and responsible spending, would never dream of such profligate waste. But here in California, the Left's obsession with central planning and endless spending cycles on 'community initiatives' ensures that these 'earmarks' aren't just funds, they're the tangible proof of a political patronage system designed to keep the right people in power and the rest of us footing the bill. Enjoy your 'local projects,' Santa Barbara, they're costing you more than you know.
