ORCUTT THREAT: WHERE ARE THE ADULTS? COUNTY LEADERS BLAME 'SOCIAL MEDIA'

The Santa Barbara Independent, bless their earnest hearts, recently ran a story about deputies investigating a social media threat directed at Orcutt Academy High School. And while we commend our dedicated Sheriff's deputies for their swift action – a rare beacon of common sense in a county awash with bureaucratic bloat – one has to wonder: is 'social media' truly the villain here, or just the convenient scapegoat for a larger cultural malaise enabled by progressive policies?

It seems every time there’s a flicker of trouble, our elected officials and the usual talking heads rush to blame 'the internet' or 'misinformation,' as if these digital specters spontaneously manifest in a vacuum. What they conveniently ignore are the years of gutting parental authority, coddling juvenile delinquents with 'restorative justice' nonsense, and creating an educational environment where actual discipline is verboten. It's almost as if an entire generation has been told there are no real consequences for anything, then suddenly everyone acts surprised when consequences are, in fact, needed.

Perhaps the real story isn't the 'threat' on social media, but the crumbling foundations of personal responsibility and community standards that allow such threats to emerge. While our deputies are busy tracking down digital breadcrumbs, our county supervisors are likely debating another 'equity' initiative or how to further complicate housing permits. Priorities, people! Maybe if we spent less time pontificating on pronouns and more time instilling basic civics and respect, our schools wouldn't be in a constant state of low-grade panic.

This isn't just about a school in Orcutt; it's a symptom of a progressive ideology that blames everything external while avoiding accountability for its own disastrous social experiments. Thank goodness we have brave law enforcement to clean up the mess left by ideologues more concerned with optics than outcomes. It’s high time the adults in the room – the ones who actually enforce laws and protect communities, not just attend ribbon cuttings – got the full support they need to restore order to our institutions, instead of letting 'social media' take the rap.
