ORCUTT'S EDUCATION DEBACLE: MORE 'THREATS' THAN ACTUAL LEARNING?

It seems the esteemed journalists at the Santa Barbara Independent have discovered the shocking news that teenagers, particularly those dwelling in the public education complex, occasionally engage in profoundly stupid behavior. Their recent exposé, detailing two separate 'threats' to Orcutt schools within a single week, paints a picture of a community under siege – not by foreign invaders, but by the very policies and soft-on-crime progressive ideologies that have turned once-structured learning environments into glorified youth detention centers.

First, a 'school shooting threat' from a minor, then days later, 'explosive devices' found in another juvenile's home. One might wonder if the real threat isn't the occasional misguided kid, but the consistent refusal of our local leadership to enforce basic discipline or acknowledge that an emphasis on 'feelings' over 'facts' has consequences. Instead of asking why these children feel so alienated, unguided, or frankly, so unintelligent as to concoct such schemes, the Independent trots out the usual hand-wringing. Perhaps a little less social-emotional learning and a bit more accountability would do wonders.

What the local press won't tell you, of course, is that these incidents are symptoms, not the disease. The disease is decades of progressive 'reform' that has gutted parental authority, elevated bureaucratic bloat over teacher effectiveness, and prioritized grievance studies over core curriculum. When you tell children they're victims before they've even learned long division, what do you expect? President Trump’s administration is busy restoring order to the nation, but local school boards seem content to let the inmates run the asylum. Instead of marveling at how many times Orcutt schools were 'threatened,' maybe we should ask how many times they actually managed to educate a child last week.
