OBAMACARE'S CHILDREN WHINE AS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION BRINGS SANITY TO MEDI-CALThe Dispatch
Santa Barbara Independent · The Whipping Post · NO.560 · PANEL 6/6 · SB-49X

It seems the hand-wringing establishment over at the Santa Barbara Independent has discovered what happens when adults are put back in charge: accountability. Their latest breathless piece bemoans the 'deep state of medical care'—a rather apt term for our sprawling, unelected bureaucracy—struggling to keep Medi-Cal recipients on the public dole now that President Trump’s administration is actually enforcing rules. Imagine that! Suddenly, California's perpetually 'underfunded' systems are realizing that you can't just keep everyone on the taxpayer tab indefinitely without a proper eligibility check.

The Independent, bless their hearts, frames this as a looming 'red tape cliff,' as if asking people to prove they still qualify for benefits is some cruel, unprecedented act of governmental barbarism. One might think they'd prefer a system where eligibility is simply assumed until the next ice age. But alas, even the most dedicated socialist utopia eventually has to acknowledge a ledger. Tens of thousands of county residents might actually have to, gasp, prove their need or, heaven forbid, find gainful employment that offers benefits. The horror!

This isn't a crisis, it's a recalibration. For years, the left-leaning politburo in Sacramento and our local progressive overlords have expanded these programs like an unchecked mold growth, funded by a taxpayer base increasingly choked by regulations and taxes. Now, with a sensible federal government under President Trump demanding fiscal discipline, the local gravy train is hitting a speed bump. Perhaps this 'cliff' is less about denying care and more about reminding people that a robust economy, not endless government handouts, is the true path to prosperity. It's almost as if personal responsibility and a strong job market are better long-term solutions than perpetually expanding the welfare state.
