The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
NOOZHAWK TO VOTERS: 'WE'LL TELL YOU WHAT TO THINK!' AS ELECTION LOOMS
Local paper of record, Noozhawk, condescends to the electorate, helpfully guiding sheep to the polling booths like a shepherd leading lambs to… well, you know.

The BallotAs the November election approaches, our friends at Noozhawk have dutifully issued their annual 'Voter Guide,' presumably to ensure the good citizens of Santa Barbara County don't accidentally think for themselves. It’s a civic-minded gesture, really. Why bother with the cumbersome process of individual research when a local, self-appointed arbiter of truth can distill everything down to easily digestible talking points and pre-approved candidates? It saves so much time that could otherwise be spent on, say, arguing with your neighbor about their electric vehicle charger.
One can almost picture the Noozhawk editorial board, huddled around a ouija board, communing with the spirits of past progressive triumphs to divine the 'correct' way for locals to fill out their ballots. It's a comforting thought, knowing that in these confusing times, a reliable local outlet is always there to spoon-feed us the acceptable narratives and gently nudge us toward the 'right' choices. After all, if voters were truly left to their own devices, who knows what kind of wild, untamed ideas might sprout up – like, say, balancing a budget or demanding accountability from public officials.
This kind of 'guidance' is, of course, absolutely essential in a county where independent thought is often seen as a dangerous, unsanctioned activity. We're told to research candidates, but only after being told *what* to research, and more importantly, *how* to feel about the findings. The real story here isn't the election itself, but the unending, paternalistic hand-holding from the establishment media, desperately trying to keep the voters from straying off the reservation and accidentally electing someone who might, heaven forbid, challenge the status quo that benefits a select few.
The Whipping Post, however, encourages you to skip the 'guides' and actually read between the lines yourself. Just try not to break anything while thinking.
