The Whipping Post Take on Santa Maria Times
NELSON THROWS WRENCH IN COUNTY'S NORTH-TO-SOUTH MONEY HEIST!
Supervisor Nelson, bless his conservative cotton socks, dared to question the county's magic trick of making North County housing funds vanish down south, proving once again that some politicians actu

While the Santa Maria Times busied itself with a breathless account of Supervisor Bob Nelson's dissenting vote, The Whipping Post was busy connecting the dots. It appears Mr. Nelson had the audacity to suggest that perhaps funds earmarked for North County housing might, just might, be better spent in North County. What a radical concept! The rest of the Board, however, seems more impressed with the county's shell game, happily rubber-stamping a $1.1 million 'loan' for an 'affordable' housing project in the decidedly un-North County locale of eastern Goleta Valley.
One has to wonder if this 'affordable' venture will be as affordable for taxpayers as it is for the developers who no doubt have their campaign donation receipts tucked away. The county's progressive leadership seems to have perfected the art of wealth redistribution, only their version involves taking from areas that actually need infrastructure and funneling it to pet projects in already well-heeled enclaves. It's not a loan, folks, it's a subsidy by another name, carefully crafted to bypass any real accountability and further cement the bureaucratic class's stranglehold on Santa Barbara County's finances.
Nelson, bless his heart, pointed out the obvious: North County is staring down a housing crunch, yet its allocated funds are taking a scenic detour to the south. This isn't just about a single vote; it's a glaring spotlight on the systemic favoritism and financial sleight-of-hand that has become business as usual for our county's administrators. The real story isn't just that Nelson voted no; it's that he exposed the intricate web of development deals and 'affordable' housing euphemisms designed to keep the gravy train chugging along for a select few, all on the taxpayer's dime.
