The Montecito Association, a collection of individuals with more money than sense – or at least, more time on their hands than most folks – recently held their monthly 'gathering.' Billed by the Montecito Journal as a "wide-ranging discussion," one can only imagine the sheer thrill of it all. "Wildfire preparedness," they claimed, was a major focus. Yes, because who better to discuss dodging fiery doom than folks who can afford to evacuate via private jet while the rest of us are stuck in traffic on the 101.

One can almost picture it: stern-faced executives, fresh from their morning spin class, nodding sagely as uniformed representatives from the Montecito Fire Protection District explain, yet again, how to not burn down their multi-million-dollar estates. It’s comforting to know that while ordinary citizens are struggling with gas prices and inflation, the pressing issue for Montecito's finest is ensuring their bespoke outdoor kitchens have adequate sprinkler systems. The sheer bravery of it all is almost overwhelming.

"Public safety" and "advocacy efforts" were also on the agenda, which undoubtedly means more hand-wringing about perceived threats to their meticulously manicured existence, and then advocating for more public funds to solve problems only they seem to have. It's a classic move: gather, discuss, and then demand someone else pay for it. The only actual "community event" worth noting for the rest of us is the collective eye-roll inspired by their continued self-importance.

In essence, it was another productive meeting for the Montecito Association, whose main job seems to be ensuring Montecito stays Montecito – an exclusive paradise where the biggest worry is occasionally having to interact with reality. We're sure their tireless efforts will lead to absolutely nothing new, just more meetings about meetings, ensuring everyone feels important without actually accomplishing anything that impacts the unwashed masses outside their gilded gates.
