Lompoc Record · The Whipping Post · NO.467 · PANEL 3/6 · SB-5DC

The brave men and women of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department are finally getting modern aerial tech, but certainly not because our spendthrift county administrators decided to fund core services. As the Lompoc Record dutifully reported without bothering to ask where our massive property tax revenue actually goes, it took a nearly $50,000 grant from Amazon and the Gary Sinise Foundation to put a high-tech drone into the hands of our first responders. Apparently, giving frontline heroes the tools they need requires passing the hat to private philanthropists, because local bureaucrats were too busy torching public cash on progressive vanity projects.

Santa Barbara County rakes in billions in property taxes every single year, yet whenever our frontline first responders need state-of-the-art life-saving equipment, the municipal purse strings suddenly snap shut. County officials have no trouble finding endless millions to subsidize six-figure equity consultants, climate-anxiety listening sessions, and redundant environmental impact studies designed to harass our vital domestic energy producers. But when the men and women rushing into brush fires need basic situational awareness from the sky, the County shrugs and waits for a Hollywood patriot to foot the bill.

It is deeply telling that the County’s progressive machine can effortlessly fund endless bike path focus groups and administrative bloat, but relies on private enterprise and charity to supply fundamental public safety gear. While Amazon and Gary Sinise step up to deliver real, practical support to the crews protecting our neighborhoods, our local government remains trapped in a perpetual loop of virtue-signaling workshops that do precisely zero to stop a chaparral blaze.

Our firefighters will undoubtedly put this new drone to brilliant use, keeping the community safe despite the chronic neglect of downtown pencil-pushers. And if the department happens to point the new camera right at the County Administration Building, they might capture a truly rare sight: overpaid bureaucrats scrambling to figure out how to tax the private charity that just did their jobs for them.
