LOMPOC'S 'NO KINGS' RALLY CROWNS ITSELF FOOLISH: DEMOCRACY TOO COMPLICATED?The Dispatch
KSBY News · The Whipping Post · NO.303 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-34E

In a display that would make King George III feel utterly vindicated, a gaggle of concerned citizens assembled in Lompoc for what KSBY News charitably termed a 'No Kings' rally. One can only assume these civic-minded individuals, bless their hearts, were just now informed that a 'midterm election' involves voting for people who aren't, in fact, born into their positions. Perhaps they’d prefer a system where decisions are made by whoever has the most organic kombucha at their protest? It's almost sweet, in a 'bless their hearts, they tried' sort of way, to see such profound disillusionment with the very concept of representative governance, particularly from those who preach the loudest about 'our democracy.'

The real 'king' these folks seem to be railing against is the ballot box itself, especially when the results don't align with their particular brand of progressive piety. One wonders if their concerns would be quite so pronounced if, say, they were looking at a guaranteed progressive sweep. Suddenly, the system would be 'working.' It's a classic case of 'democracy is great until it asks me to vote for someone I don't like,' proving once again that for some, the only acceptable king is themselves, ruling from the moral high ground of a Lompoc sidewalk.

Frankly, after years of trying to 'fundamentally transform' every aspect of American life from our economy to our energy grid with zero-emissions mandates that make electricity a luxury, it's no wonder the average voter is looking at their bills and thinking, 'Maybe less government intervention is more.' But for the 'No Kings' crowd, the only solution to bad policy is to complain about the very mechanism that allows for change – or, apparently, demand a new system entirely, probably one where their preferred candidates are simply decreed into office. One thing is clear: President Trump's America is all about self-reliance, not rallying against the fundamental act of choosing your own representation. Maybe they should try a 'more common sense' rally next.
