Your humble Whipping Post staff saw the latest dispatch from KEYT NewsChannel 3-12, breathlessly reporting on the 'aftermath of Iran war' and 'peace agreements.' We confess, for a moment, we thought we'd accidentally tuned into CNN. Imagine our surprise when we realized this was Santa Barbara's premier local news outlet, seemingly more concerned with Tehran than Goleta, and more focused on foreign policy than the county's chronic homelessness crisis (which, ironically, could probably fund a small nation's military at this point).

It's truly inspiring to see our local media grappling with geopolitical grand strategy, perhaps assuming the Supervisors are secretly orchestrating back-channel diplomacy from their private jets. Meanwhile, back on Earth, the rest of us are left wondering if they'll ever dedicate similar gravitas to, say, the latest property tax hike or the escalating cost of that downtown 'revitalization' project that perpetually looks like a construction zone. One might think a local station would prioritize, oh, we don't know, local issues? But then again, debating 'peace agreements' is far less messy than actually investigating why a certain donor's development project keeps sailing through planning commission approvals.

Perhaps KEYT's new foreign correspondent desk believes that if they ignore the impending collapse of the county's infrastructure and the soaring cost of living, it will simply vanish – poof! Like a local government transparency report after a certain developer makes a well-timed 'campaign contribution.' While they ponder the intricacies of Middle Eastern treaties, we'll be over here, trying to figure out which obscure line item in the county budget is secretly funding the Supervisor's next 'fact-finding mission' to a five-star resort.

But hey, bless their hearts. At least they're talking about *something*. Even if that something is happening several thousand miles away and has about as much direct impact on Santa Barbara as a progressive's promise to balance a budget. We just hope their 'live debate' doesn't include any 'unauthorized' questions about, say, the county's unfunded pension liabilities. That might actually be *too* local for them.
