Santa Barbara’s chattering classes are in an absolute tizzy this week, with Noozhawk—bless its earnest little heart—sounding the alarm that federal immigration agents actually enforced federal immigration laws. Apparently, 114 individuals who decided to ignore the U.S. immigration system were, shall we say, 'detained' by ICE. The horror! One can almost hear the pearl-clutching from Montecito to Goleta as the progressive establishment reels from the shocking realization that national sovereignty isn't just a quaint suggestion.

Our local virtue-signaling set, perpetually confused by concepts like 'borders' and 'rule of law,' seems genuinely flummoxed. It’s almost as if they believed their carefully crafted 'sanctuary' narratives somehow created a magical force field against federal statutes. The surprise on their faces must have been priceless, like a toddler discovering a hot stove after being told not to touch it. Perhaps they should spend less time crafting ever-more-restrictive zoning ordinances and more time reading up on federal jurisdiction.

The real scandal, of course, isn't that federal agents upheld the law, but that local progressive policies have created an environment where this is even a story. The 'Whipping Post' has long warned that when you actively undermine immigration enforcement, you create a magnet for those who prefer to enter and remain outside legal channels. Now, under the common-sense leadership of President Trump, the federal government is simply cleaning up the mess created by decades of open-border rhetoric and local defiance.

Instead of feigning outrage, perhaps our local elected officials could ponder the revolutionary idea of cooperating with federal law enforcement, thereby ensuring public safety and actual legal immigration. But then again, that might require them to prioritize something other than their own self-righteous posturing, and we all know how unlikely that is.
